Avoiding Holiday Weight Gain with Nutrisystem


Happy New Year! This past week was a good test of how I will do when I enter the maintenance stage of my weight loss journey. I spent 8 days at my sister and brother-in-laws. Although I brought Nutrisystem meals with me, they are both great cooks so I decided to test the waters of what a maintenance plan will be like. I had Nutrisystem for breakfast and lunch and homecooked dinners. I skipped dessert on several days and also tried to avoid dairy as the powerfuel. All meals on Christmas were homecooked.

Dinners consisted of many more calories than I have been eating so I thought for sure I had gained at least 5 lbs. I was sort of shocked when I stepped on my scale this morning and saw I lost .6 lbs.! for a 38-week total of 41.2 lbs. It gave me the encouragement I needed to look forward to continuing the success I've had on Nutrisystem when I transition into their maintenance plan. 


I cannot let 2016 end without once again thanking Nutrisystem with all my heart. This experience has not only been the best partnership I've had since starting Chic Luxuries, it has been life changing for me. Starting Week 38 with Nutrisystem


I attended two holiday parties this week ~ first a neighborhood Caroling event which I organized that ended at our new Clubhouse where the staff had hot cocoa and dessert waiting for us. We also had the Grand Opening of our beautiful Clubhouse on Saturday. Here's a few pics of it with Chef Robert busily preparing the delicious hors d'oeuvres for the party ~


I think I did okay as far as what I ate at the Grand Opening...that is until I got home and broke into the goodie bag that contained homemade cookies!...UGH! Since cookies have always been my downfall, I had to pass on two Cookie Exchange invitations because I knew the temptation would be too much for me. Our indoor pool is also closed for maintenance so I didn't get in much exercise last week. Just in the nick of time, the very generous Nutrisystem team sent me this much appreciated Christmas gift. Thank you to all the Nutrisystem elves!


This is how my journey started except this box included Nutrisystem's new NutriCrush™ Peanut Butter Chocolate Bars {instead of the NutriCrush™ shakes}. Since I prepare my shakes in the blender with ice, the bars are perfect while on the road when a blender isn't available.


I'll be traveling this week, first an overnight and then for a week at my sister's. Taking my Nutrisystem meals with me and hoping I can stick to the plan for most of the time away. I've never dieted during the holidays and I'm finding it very difficult. 


I substituted NutriCrush® and Turbo Shakes for power fuels and healthy carbs a few days last week and weighed in this morning with a .2 lb. loss for the week bringing my total weight loss to 40.6 lbs. Although I feel like I'm in a fragile state as far as temptation goes, one thing these delicious food-filled holiday parties have made me realize is that I have a food addiction. I don't think I've ever given that much thought to it until now. My goal for 2017 is to find a way to conquer this addiction.

Starting Week 37 with Nutrisystem


Week 37 is here and I'm feeling healthier, happier, and a lot more fit than when I started this journey 8 months ago. I had a bit more than usual to eat this past week, one reason was I attended a holiday get-together and the other is I was much hungrier every day this week....must be the cold weather. 



So, it didn't come as a huge surprise when I stepped on the scale and only lost .2 lbs. for the week {excuse the blurry image}. At this point, I'm concentrating more on toning than on losing lbs. Not only do I have a lot of loose skin hanging around, losing 40+ lbs. at 56 can create new wrinkles ... literally ... particularly in the face, and I have quite enough of those already. ☺ At 5'7", I'm not sure if 130 is my ideal weight or if it's closer to 140, but I guess I'll know, or the scale will tell me, when I reach it. In the meantime, I'm excited to continue this journey with Nutrisystem. Every day there seems to be something new to learn about weight loss, or a low-cal version of a fave recipe to try on The Leaf.



That's where I found this BBQ Chicken Nachos recipe. I love Chicken Nachos and actually made them to take to last week's holiday gathering. I'm sure the BBQ flavor kicks them up a notch and they sound easy enough to whip up for impromptu game day get-togethers.

If you're beginning a weight loss journey, I encourage you to take a "before" picture. As anyone who has dieted knows, losing weight takes work, willpower, and determination. Having a point of reference, and seeing how far you've come, will help get you through the rough patches. For me, it's a reminder that I don't want to go back to being that tired, unhealthy and sad person in the picture on the left. 40.4 lbs. and counting! Thank you, Nutrisystem!

Starting Week 36 on Nutrisystem


Several weeks ago the new owners of my community implemented a mandatory food spend for our new Clubhouse and single members, like me, are required to eat as much as a family. Although I typically choose a healthy and delicious veggie wrap, it contains so much salt that eating my flex meals there were creating havoc on my body and diet. At the same time I was trying to figure out the right combination of calories, powerfuels and smart carbs to balance my exercise routine so the scale was, at times, on a bit of a roller coaster. 


To help me figure it out, I once again started logging my food, water, and exercise, either on numi or in the Nutrisystem journal that is shipped with every order. I also now ask the Chef to hold the salt when eating at our community restaurant. Now that I have several weeks of data to analyze, I'm beginning to see a pattern of minimal weight loss when exercising for an hour or more and when having flex meals out. I think the days I was exercising 2+ hours and eating the same amount of calories, my body was going into starvation mode and holding onto fat and calories. 



This week I weighed in at 139.8! It's been over 20 years since I've been in the 130's! This brings my 35-week total to 40.2 lbs. I LOVE this plan and, more importantly, it works!
