I just LOVE a company with a great cause and Helping Hands Bakery captured my heart. Founded by Bridget Lane, a mom of three sons diagnosed with autism, Bridget wanted to make a difference in her community and ensure her boys and others with special needs would always have a job. She turned her love of baking cookies into Helping Hands Bakery where employees with special needs are taught not only how to bake cookies, but also learn self-reliance skills.
Oooh and the cookies, let me tell you about the cookies! They are gluten-free which usually when I hear that means not so great. I have a weakness for cookies and have been on a gluten-free diet, but I've had a hard time finding gluten-free anything that is worth writing about. Well, make yourself a cup of tea and pull up a chair because Helping Hands Bakery's cookies are definitely worth reading about. They are SCRUMPTIOUS, unbelievably moist, not too sweet, and soooo tasty. Be prepared, they will quickly disappear out of the cookie jar even if your family doesn't live a gluten-free lifestyle.
We first tried the Monster Bites ~ made with chocolate chips, raisins and the slightest hint of coconut. I was immediately struck by how moist they were, they tasted as though they were just out of the oven. I thought the other flavors couldn't possibly be any better than these. Wrong!
The next day I tasted Cranberry Flax. I didn't think I would like these from the name. Wrong again! One bite and I was convinced these would be my favorite. They, too, were soooo moist and fluffy. I loved the bits of sweet cranberries.
Next up were Helping Hands Bakery's newest addition, Chocolate Chip Bites. These could rival Toll House cookies any day. They were soft and chewy with big chunks of chocolate and that fresh, right out-of-the-oven taste. Mmmm
My Mom was still talking about how good the Snickerdoodles were that she had the night before. She's even harder to please than I am, and since the only thing she said after trying them was "They don't taste like Snickers"☺, I figured she didn't like them. Yep wrong again, turns out she LOVES them. Of course, after hearing her rave about them, I had to have one. They are light as air, melt-in-your mouth scrumptious and my favorite...so far! Helping Hands Bakery makes more goodies than just these four cookies though so I may have another favorite before too long.
Helping Hands Bakery delivers across the U.S. The cookies arrive packaged in resealable plastic boxes and retail for $19.95 for a pack of 4 boxes including shipping! To order visit them online at HelpingHandsBakery.com.
